BEIJING (Reuters) -China’s Xiaomi will fix software in 30,931 SU7 electric vehicles over safety hazards, in the first such issue the popular sedan has faced since its launch.
The affected standard version of SU7 was produced between Feb. 6 and Nov. 26, the market regulator said in a statement.
Software issues may result in abnormal timing synchronisation, which affects the detection of static obstacles by the intelligent parking assistance function, increases the risk of scratches or collisions, and poses potential safety hazards, the statement said.
While the software fix is described as a product recall under Chinese regulations, it was not immediately clear if the affected cars might need, or would qualify, to be returned to Xiaomi.
Wang Hua, head of Xiaomi’s public relations department, said in a Weibo post that affected car owners do not need to “panic”, and upgrade the software after receiving the over-the-air reminder.
The SU7 was launched in late March as the Chinese smartphone maker ventured into the crowded EV arena. The electric sedan outsold Tesla’s Model 3 in December, data from ByteDance’s auto subsidiary Dcar showed.
