Ukraine imposes power supply restrictions amid frosty weather, lack of generation

KYIV (Reuters) – Ukraine’s national power grid operator Ukrenergo said on Monday it limits energy supplies to Ukrainian industry and businesses due to increased consumption in freezing weather and generation shortages after Russian missile strikes.

The restrictions will be in place from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. (0400-0700 GMT), Ukrenergo said on the Telegram messenger.

Temperatures across much of the country dropped sharply this past weekend to about minus 8 degrees Celsius (17.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

Ukrenergo said Ukrainian power consumption rose 1.9% on Monday versus the previous working day, Friday.

Russian forces have regularly bombarded Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, including substations and thermal power plants, throughout its three-year invasion.
