Germany monitoring cases of Germans detained in US closely

BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany is monitoring how its citizens are being treated when travelling to the United States and will adjust its travel safety advice, if necessary, once a clear picture has been established, a foreign ministry spokesperson said on Monday.

“We have recently become aware of three cases in which German citizens were unable to enter the U.S. because their journey was blocked by deportation detention,” said the spokesperson at a regular government press conference.

Germany is in contact with its partners in the European Union to determine if this represents a change in American immigration policy or if they are isolated cases, he added.
