European auto suppliers body calls for solutions, not tariffs

PARIS (Reuters) – The European association of automotive suppliers (CLEPA) on Thursday called on policymakers in Europe to prioritise finding solutions over trade barriers after U.S. President Donald Trump announced 25% tariffs on foreign-made vehicles.

“Tariffs of this scale will disrupt the flow of goods, raise production costs, and ultimately make cars more expensive for consumers, including in the United States,” it said in a statement.

“It’s a threat to the economic and industrial resilience of the western world,” CLEPA added.
