Russia opens criminal case against elderly father of former Navalny ally, TASS reports

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia has opened a criminal case against the 69-year-old father of Leonid Volkov, a former aide to late opposition leader Alexei Navalny, state news agency TASS reported on Thursday.

TASS quoted a security source as saying that Mikhail Volkov, a renowned mathematics professor, was suspected of transferring money to Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Fund, which is banned in Russia as a foreign agent and an extremist organisation.
