BEIJING (Reuters) -The chairman of Chinese solar manufacturing giant Longi Green Energy called on Wednesday for more spot checks to combat low-quality solar manufacturing and resolve an imbalance between supply and demand.
Speaking at the China New Energy International Forum and Exhibition in Beijing, Zhong Baoshen said competitive pressure had led to a significant decline in the quality of China’s solar industry products over the past two to three years.
“Price pressure and the excessive number of participants have led to a decline in the average level of the whole industry,” he said.
“Therefore, we must resolutely curb this phenomenon through spot checks to maintain the image of China’s photovoltaic industry.”
The comments came two days after President Xi Jinping called for the “orderly” exit of outdated production capacity and the curbing of “disorderly” price competition, and told industry associations to take steps to improve product quality.
