China’s December aluminium imports fall 8.6% y/y, customs data show

(Reuters) – China’s imports of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products fell 8.6% in December from the same month a year earlier to 300,000 metric tons, customs data showed on Saturday.

That compared to 280,000 tons imported in November.

Imports for 2024 rose 22.5% to 3.75 million tons, according to data from the General Administration of Customs. The data includes primary metal and unwrought, alloyed aluminium.

Imports of bauxite, a key raw material for aluminium, rose 26.6% year-on-year last month to 14.98 million tons. For the year, they were up 12.4% year-on-year to 158.77 million tons.
