French chemicals group Arkema to cut 154 jobs at Jarrie site

(Reuters) – French speciality chemicals group Arkema plans to cut 154 positions at its Jarrie site after deciding to halt some of its production there, it said on Tuesday.

The chlorine, soda, methyl chloride and technical fluids production activities will be shut down after the interruption to salt deliveries by Vencorex, Arkema said.

“The lack of an alternative supply of salt, in quantity and of a quality comparable to that of Vencorex, was a strong threat to maintaining the activity of the entire site,” the group’s press release said.

The job cuts are expected to take place between mid-2025 and end of 2025, it added.

French chemicals group Vencorex was placed in receivership last September at the request of its main shareholder, Thailand’s PTT GC.
