EU needs to keep calm in response to U.S. tariffs, Dutch minister says

LUXEMBOURG (Reuters) – The EU will need to remain calm and proportionate in its response to U.S. trade tariffs and aim for negotiations, Dutch Trade minister Reinette Klever said on Monday.

“We need to get ourselves at the table with the Americans and see how we can lower these tariffs,” Klever said before a meeting of EU trade ministers in Luxembourg.

“We need to remain calm and respond in a way that de-escalates. The stock markets right now show what will happen if we escalate straightaway. But we will be prepared to take countermeasures if needed to get the Americans at the table.”
