Minority shareholder in talks with Czech tycoon Kretinsky to take over Prisa, El Economista says

MADRID (Reuters) – Global Alconaba, a minority shareholder in Spanish media group Prisa, is in talks with Czech tycoon Daniel Kretinsky to make a tender offer on its shares, newspaper El Economista reported on Wednesday, citing sources close to the negotiations.

Global Alconaba owns about 5.9% in Prisa, the owner of the influential El Pais newspaper, according to LSEG.

Kretinsky, who is worth about $9.9 billion according to Forbes’ billionaire list, owns assets in energy, retail, sports and media all over Europe and has held a stake in French newspaper Le Monde’s main shareholder between 2018 and 2023.

His company Czech Media Invest did not respond to a request for comment. Global Alconaba could not be reached.

Prisa’s chairman Joseph Oughourlian, whose fund Amber Capital controls 24.1% of Prisa, did not return a message seeking comment.

(This story has been corrected to say that Kretinsky held a stake in Le Monde’s main shareholder, not a 49% stake in Le Monde, in paragraph 3)
