(Reuters) -At least four workers were killed in a gas leak at a pharmaceutical company in India’s western state of Maharashtra on Thursday and two more were injured, according to a district official.
The incident, which happened at Medley Pharma, appears to have been a nitrogen gas leak, Palghar district’s Resident Deputy Collector Subhash Bhagade said.
The official said it was not yet clear how many people were working at the plant at the time of the incident.
The two injured are being treated in hospital, the official said, adding that the unit was shut down following the incident. The official also said an inquiry into the leak is being carried out.
The company did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
