Chinese commerce ministry confirms Washington visit by trade envoy

BEIJING (Reuters) -China’s trade representative Li Chenggang is in Washington this week for discussions with U.S. officials, according to the Chinese commerce ministry on Thursday.

Li will meet with officials in Washington after leading a delegation to Canada from August 24 to 27, ministry spokesperson He Yongqian said during a regular news conference.

Li is expected to travel to Washington this week to meet U.S. officials, a U.S. government spokesperson said earlier this week, adding that the visit was not part of a formal negotiating session.
