Oil company OMV plans to cut staff in Austria

(Reuters) – Energy group OMV has started negotiations with employee representatives in Austria as part of a cost-saving programme, it said in a statement on Friday.

It did not give an exact figure but said the negotiations could lead to a “mid-three digit labour impact” in the country and that it would announce further details in due course.

The Vienna headquartered firm employed more than 23,000 people worldwide, 5,400 of which are in its home country, as of the end of last year.

OMV added that it has identified a cost savings potential of 400 million euros ($469 million) by the end of 2027.

Last week, the Kurier newspaper reported that OMV planned to cut 2,000 of its global staff and some 400 of the company’s positions in Austria would be scrapped.
