ROME (Reuters) -Giorgia Meloni’s government expects Italy’s economy to grow by 0.5% this year and 0.7% in 2026 under an unchanged policy scenario, people close to the matter told Reuters ahead of official publication of the new forecasts next week.
The forecasts, still subject to possible marginal changes before their publication, do not include the impact of stimulus measures the government intends to adopt in the next few weeks as part of its 2026 budget package, the people said.
Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said this month Rome would maintain its current official targets for gross domestic product growth of 0.6% this year and 0.8% in 2026, in the upcoming budget plan.
Giorgetti also said Italy could cut its budget deficit below the European Union’s 3% of GDP ceiling this year, 12 months ahead of schedule.
